Welcome

YEBN is a European-wide network of organisations and individuals engaged as students, researchers, professionals, small_yebn_im_042005_0069.jpgproject leaders in Biotechnology and Life Sciences.

We aim at connecting people and their organisations, at promoting careers and the establishment of international projects; we help our organizations in improving services and opportunities to life scientists by fostering cooperation and exchanges; we represent the needs of young Biotechnologists in Europe by interacting with the European Institutions.

If you are a student or a researcher wishing to be part of large community of colleagues, if you are an institution willing to be in touch with young scientists, if you are a company wishing to reach such a wide target, this is the right place for you!

First issue of the New Biotechnology journal

June 2008 will see the first issue of the European Federation of Biotechnology's (EFB) official journal, New Biotechnology. The aims of New Biotechnology are to become a top-ranked peer-reviewed science journal but also to convey the EFB's opinion, views and policies. New Biotechnology is representing the views and aspirations of young biotech researchers through a section dedicated to YEBN. The section dedicated to YEBN will provide interviews of biotech leaders, young entrepeneurs and headhunters, give an idea of life in top research institutes and present YEBN activities as well as funding opportunities for young life scientists in biotechnology.

Referrals
Some referrals for YEBN:

“Europe needs youth for biotech. YEBN (an associated section of the European Federation of Biotechnology www.efbweb.org) is the place for young people to meet, exchange experiences, and share dreams and values. Therefore, I encourage industry and academic institutions to give them a hand.”

Boerge Diderichsen; Professor, Ph.D./Former President of the European Federation of Biotechnology (EFB); Vice-president of Novo Nordisk, Denmark

"Biotech is one of the important new technologies of this century, converting new insights into new therapies, which have not been possible before at any time in human history, e.g. for rare genetic diseases. Europe needs to put a high priority on programmes to keep and foster its young scientists and entrepreneurs, for the sake of its future welfare and wellbeing. YEBN (supported by EuropaBio, the European biotechnology industry association, www.europabio.org) is a necessary contributor to this process and I warmly recommend that industry, academia and European officials support and collaborate with this organisation."

Erik Tambuyzer, Ph.D./Former Chair of the EuropaBio Healthcare Board; Senior Vice-president and Member of the Board of Genzyme Europe, Belgium

"Biotechnology and young people's networks are both essential components of Europe's scientific and technological futures. Accordingly, I strongly endorse the goals and activities of the YEBN"

Philip Campbell, Ph.D./Editor-in-chief, nature
